AUKUH welcomes the GMC's recommendations for the future regulation of medical education and training
(09/03/10)

AUKUH has responded to the GMC review of the Future Regulation of Medical Education and Training. AUKUH particularly welcomes the proposed review of the quality assurance processes for the Foundation Programme, which provides an opportunity to sort out the anomalies related to current responsibilities in the first and second year of the foundation programme. AUKUH is however cautious of recommendations 18 and 19 which pertain to EU and international graduates and locums. Any approach to the regulation of international and EU medical graduates and their potential UK employers must be mindful of unintended consequences. AUKUH warns against creating barriers that would prevent the most experienced EU and international doctors from working in the UK.

(15/02/10)

AUKUH has responded to the NHS Medical Education England Review of the Impact of the European Working Time Directive (EWTD) on the Quality of Postgraduate Training. AUKUH recognises that there has been some negative impact since the implementation of EWTD but it is too early to see the extent of this. Medical schools and Trusts are finding ways to ensure the quality of medical education and training.

AUKUH responds to the Care Quality Commission on Reviews 2009/10 (12/03/09)

The Association of UK University Hospitals is overall supportive of the integrated approach to regulation taken by the CQC. AUKUH supports the intention to assess throughout a care pathway. Whilst generally supportive of the suggested special reviews, the detail is of critical importance. The consultation paper is specifically focused on 2009/10 as a year of transition, but AUKUH is concerned that this signals a major shift in regulation from 2010/11.
