Key Work Streams

The key work streams for the Association of UK University Hospitals are set in the content of the tripartite agenda of service, education and research. The current priorities for the Association are:
Service
- Quality and Productivity – to ensure that member organisations are prepared for the financial constraints and are able to handle these in part through innovative changes that increase productivity whilst maintaining or improving quality for patients and protecting and enhancing academic output
- European Working Time Directive – to assess the effect of the EQTD both on service and on training
- Workforce – to continue to survey member trusts on the current workforce in the context of budget cuts
Education
- MPET – to prepare for the potential impending change in MPET funding and to continue to seek to influence the new system
- HIECs – to review how these develop and encourage all forms of collaboration between the health and education sectors
- Transition – to support the better management of the transition from undergraduate education to service including: supporting the development of student assistantships for medical students and the junior doctor contract and to assess and plan for the impact of the move to graduate only nursing degrees
Research
- AHSCs – to review how these develop and encourage all forms of collaboration between the health and education sectors
- Research funding – to support effective funding of research and to help make the UK more attractive to biomedical research investment and highlighting best practice in the management of research and development
- Research workforce – to support the better management of the research workforce
