The AUKUH Patient Care Portfolio was formally launched at the CNO Summit on 1 November 2007. Further work to develop the Patient Care Portfolio is currently being carried out by the NHS Institute.
The Patient Care Portfolio has two distinct but interrelated elements:
Element 1
The Acuity / Dependency tool has been developed to help NHS hospitals measure patient acuity and dependency to inform evidence-based decision making on nursing staffing and workforce.
The web based application of the tool, known as Safer Nursing Care, was developed by the NHS Institute and launched in February 2011. Element 2
Nurse Sensitive Indicators have been identified as indicators of quality of care with specific sensitivity to nursing intervention or lack of it. Using the two elements together offers nurses a reliable method against which to deliver evidence-based workforce plans to support existing services or the development of new ones.
