AUKUH PATIENT CARE PORTFOLIO

The AUKUH Patient Care Portfolio was formally launched at the CNO Summit on 1 November 2007. Further work to develop the Patient Care Portfolio is currently being carried out by the NHS Institute.

The Patient Care Portfolio has two distinct but interrelated elements:

• ELEMENT 1
  The Acuity / Dependency tool has been developed to help NHS hospitals measure patient acuity and dependency to inform evidence-based decision making on nursing staffing and workforce.
  
• ELEMENT 2
  Nurse Sensitive Indicators have been identified as indicators of quality of care with specific sensitivity to nursing intervention or lack of it.

Using the two elements together offers nurses a reliable method against which to deliver evidence-based workforce plans to support existing services or the development of new ones.
